The Importance of Menu and a Sitemap

The Importance of Menu and a Sitemap
Published on June 11, 2012

A sitemap is often considered redundant in the process of building a website, and that is indeed the fact if you made a sitemap for the sake of having one. All of the template offered by Find Your Net are built with user in mind - ergo the simplicity of the website template is maintained and the main menu serves as the sitemap of the website. All main purposes of the sitemap are preserved as follows

- Navigation purposes - menu is available to all the website visitors.  It is always visible.  It is always self explanatory.  All main sections of the website are outlined in the main menu, and the user always know what page he or she is on.

- Conveying your site's theme - When your visitors load up the website, they will get the gist of your entire website within a very short amount of time. There is no need to get the "big picture" of your site by reading through each page, and by doing that you will be saving your visitors' time.

- Site optimization purposes - all menu elements are coded using actual text.  This is very important, so that all anchors for the pages on your websites are labeled correctly.  On top of that, XML sitemap is created each time you make a modification to your website. XML sitemap is a single page which contains links to every single page on your site.  This page is used by Search Engines to see what pages you are offering and to check the content on these pages. Imagine what happens when search engine robots hit this page - they will follow the links on the sitemap and naturally every single page of your site gets indexed by search engines!

That pretty much covers it.  And as mentioned before, the sitemap is always built for you, just like the menu is.  All Find Your Net clients can access their XML sitemap by going to their URL followed by "/sitemap.xml".  This just an F.Y.I.  There is no work or action needed on your behalf, but we wanted to let you know that you never need to worry about this important S.E.O. element.  We made sure that it works for you in the background.

I was looking through your website and saw that you are offering social network management. I will probably register just for that. I have a lot of information spread out all over the place, and wouldn't mind being able to combine it all into one pretty package. Looking forward to some new website themes.
